Reaching for the Stars Together - Our Philosophy
- We believe the primary role of the Developmental Therapist (DT) is to support the parent/caregiver so that they may be able to support their special needs child. There are many ways to support a family: education, teaching how to play, listening, providing resources, and giving parents and caregivers the confidence needed to parent a child with special needs.
- We believe that Developmental Therapy, or any therapy, is not about the therapist; it is about the child and their family.
- We believe a therapist needs to be constantly monitoring their work to ensure that the family’s objectives are being met and that the parent/caregiver and child are receiving the best possible practice.
- We believe a central component of best practice is self-reflection. Due to the nature of the work, our own beliefs and values can impact our practice. Therapists must be self-aware so that these beliefs and values do not enter into the session.
